Look…..at Zambia

from the ABC set Africa

Look at the Zambian sky, so clear and blue
Look at the white clouds, sun shining through

Look at the greenness of all the leaves
Look at the wind, sifting through the trees
Look at the buildings all shining bright
Look at the roads with their lines of white
Look at the cars as they glitter in the sun
Look at the bright colours worn by everyone

Look far away, on the horizon, can you see?
Look, miles and miles, at a carpet of trees.
Look at the anthills dotted here and there.
Look at the piccaninns running around bare.
Look at my home, this place that is mine.
Look at all the beauty I’ll be leaving behind.

I've come across the word 'piccaninns' sometime in the past but I'm not sure what it means... I take it that it's an affectionate term for the locals.

Well, Frances, if you've moved to the UK then, like me, you will probably still be missing the sunshine and the simplicity of a warmer land.

Oops, I've just checked and you've moved to Oz...
good move! It's certainly NOT cold at the moment I hear :O)

Hi Mangone,
Thanks for reading. Piccaninns is the African (Bemba) word for young child. I still miss my African home, always will even though I'm now a True Blue Aussie through and through.
It's forcast to be 38 deg C tomorrow and 42 deg C on Sunday, so yeah pretty warm and 50+ days without rain.
