we've subdivided
the land into lots,
the seas into fisheries,
urban canyons into condos,
the skies into flight paths,
outer space into cyber-bits…
the division is endless,
in all directions.
we’ve reached deep into the atom
and divided that up too,
into quarks & bosons
& invisible particles that we smash to see
bound to divide,
we will chop & cut & build and sell it,
every square foot of earth.
we think we own it
with our carefully drawn lines
& deeds & domains.
as we run out of ground
we turn upward into sky
outward into space
like the first division of cell
we continue the endless partition
fast, unswerving, towards our paupers’ plots.

Really great imagery, making a strong point effectively.
I think 'cell' needs to be 'cells', what do you think?

Thank you Jennifer,
yes you could be right...i was thinking of a singular cell that leads back to a single point in the past, to the first cell that divided - tho it could have been a plural event.
