Walls may crumble and fall
Ships may crash against the reef
Leaders may step down in dishonour
Mountains may wash to the sea
Yet a babe crying out for it’s mother
May distract me for sure
As I sit here in my chair
A safe and secure position
Like a Buddha
Even were my chair placed
In the most desolate of places
I would find comfort
Raised above mortality
From here I can see the world
Sunshine, darkness of the night
Snowflakes and gulls
Deep in thought
Transcending the threshold
Of languidness
I rock to and fro
As an infant in a cradle
And a grandmother reminiscing
This is my haven
My secure harbour
My refuge from the storm
My seat of power
From whence I reign
My throne above squalid mediocrity
And infernal dispute
Here is peace and calm
In just a wooden rocking chair

This is so very beautiful, Pia. Just a tiny point, 'threshold' is all one word;-)
I love that line, by the way, 'snowflakes and gulls'.
The whole poem has a sense of contentment about it, and the last line rounds it off, more than effectively.
Very much savoured and enjoyed.

Thanks Tina- I was in doubt about threshold but it makes sense now- have corrected it! Glad you enjoyed it.

Like Tina said, the imagery in this is so gentle and beautiful. The first few lines were a perfect introduction to this mesmerizing poem Pia. I would love to see your write more of these 'safe and secure' poems. Would make a great theme for a collection.

This is so original for the IP. It's nice to feel
safe and secure, like a mothers comfort is how I
see you describe your chair.
A very positive piece Pia.
Jenny.

Thank you for your comment Jenny. It sort of embraces you a chair like that- doesn't it?

Highhat.
I do like all your little tales.
More so I think, because I live next to the sea.
This one tinged with a touch of sadness...
"...squalid mediocrity And infernal dispute..."
and hope
"...Here is peace and calm..."
