A ship in a bottle came my way
One sunny summer holiday.
Apparently the glass was old
To me the bottle had been sold.
And on the prow was writ quite bold
'Neptune's Treasure' in letters of gold.
And I could see upon the deck
A treasure chest and beer kegs.
A fighting ship this never was,
But one that journeyed from here to Oz.
Full of booty, silks and spice
Always going somewhere nice.
But if in fact things proved unlucky
Picaroons met sailors plucky
Then peace in fact did turn to mayhem
The crew would probably have to slay them.
And with its cargoes of ancient gold,
Coppers and bronzes and art of old,
It truly would be such a pleasure
To sail upon the 'Neptune's Treasure'.
And now the ship is trapped in its bottle
Its seafaring days lost and forgotten,
It seems that it will have to settle
For a place by the window next to the kettle.

Hi hilary West,
this was such a special little poem, I absolutely
adored the ending. We have a ship in a bottle, now
when I look at it, I shall think of your poem.
Thankyou.
Jenny.

I will never look at a ship in a bottle the same way again. Loved the last line.
