The Dance.
The man and the woman arrived at the restaurant and went around to the back to park the car. Then the man helped the woman from the car and they walked around the building on the paved pathway. The path was lit by lamps that stood on short lampposts.
They walked into the main entrance of the restaurant, and were quickly shown to their table, when their booking was confirmed. They ordered their respective meals and a bottle of wine, and listened to the band playing softly in the background while they waited. They ate and drank when their food was served, and all the while the band kept playing soft melodies for the entertainment of the patrons.
Outside on the patio couples were dancing to the rhythmical music. The man and the woman made soft conversation while they ate. After they had had their meal, the table was cleared, and desert served. The band played and the couples danced outside on the terrace. When their desert was done, the table was once again cleared by the waiter, and the man ordered another bottle of wine.
They had glass more wine, and then the man asked the woman to dance. They walked through the glass doors out on to the terrace with its low white washed walls. They started to dance the slow waltz that the band was playing, their bodies moving in rhythm. The northern stars shone brightly above and the full moon beamed, as the waves of the Mediterranean broke gently on the shore outside.
The man's black suit blended in smooth motion with the woman's red dress. They danced gracefully over the floor among the other dancing couples. The cool wind washed over them, as it came in off the sea. The dance floor was filled to capacity with dancing couples, waltzing to the beautiful music of the band. The couples of men and women glided in a smooth continual stream among each other. The music went on as the couples danced.
The man and the woman danced in each other's arms as the evening passed. The hours floated by like them dancing. At last the band played the final number for the evening, and still they danced. The dance floor was less filled with couples than earlier in the evening. The band played a slow number, and the men and women danced slowly in each other's arms. Then the music ended and the band packed up for the night.
The man and the women finished their wine and then left the restaurant. He took her home with the automobile. They drove swiftly through the deserted night streets of the little seaside town When they arrived at her residence she asked him whether he would like to come in for a final drink. The man accepted and they went up to her room.
She put a record on the gramophone and poured them each a brandy. Then she opened the glass doors to the patio to let in the fresh night air, while the man smoked a cigar and sipped his drink. When they had drunk half of their tumblers of brandy, the man asked the woman to dance. They put a new record on the gramophone, and went outside on the terrace to dance. It was a gentle waltz, and the man and the woman danced under the brilliant stars, as the wind swept softly over them and the waves broke on the sand. His black suit flowed in united motion with her red dress, as they glided over the floor. The music played and they danced as the hours swept passed.
The woman could feel the strength of the man's arms and shoulders as he held her. He in turn could feel the soft, firm flesh of her body while they moved with the music. They danced slowly and tenderly to the gentle music, and they never tired of the passion of each other's bodies as they blended in smooth motion. The music played on, and still they danced.
They danced in each other's arms all through the darkness of the early morning hours, until the light of the coming day started to break on the horizon. The feint glimmer grew slightly brighter, until pink streaks of light lit up the horizon. The sun rose brilliant red over the ocean as the man and the woman danced out on the terrace. Only when the sun was up, did they stop dancing, and went inside the apartment for a final drink. The man smoked one of his cigars, as he rested on the couch and drank his brandy.
Then they said goodbye as she let him out of the apartment. They made arrangements for dinner the following week, and then the man went downstairs to his car, and drove off. The woman put on her nightclothes and drew the curtains. Then she climbed into bed to sleep.
The End.
