the cowboy and the indian

The Cowboy and the Indian.

The cowboy and the Indian were riding down the long, winding trail. The path was strewn with rocks and pebbles, and the going was rough on the horses. The white man rode a large horse, and the Indian beside him, a smaller one. Both horses were brown in colour.

As they rode slowly up the mountain path they looked over the forest of pines on either side of the trail. The trees were tall and green, and cover in thick needles. Near the ground grew thick growth of shrubs and bushes. The birds were a-plenty in the trees, and their song filled the air in the early morning. As the two men looked about them, their horses carried them slowly on.

The cowboy’s name was Jack Cummings, and he was a tall, slim man. The Indian beside him was called Joe Two-Feathers, and he was a short but stout man. Both men were hardened and tough travellers on the mountain trails. They had both grown up out here, and no one knew the land better than men like these.

They travelled slowly and carefully towards home, which was a cabin out on a small plot of land nearby. They came to a drift, and led the horses gently through it. Once on the other side, they took up the trail again. The men and their horses rode on through the bushes and trees on the rough mountain path.

A red-chested robin sang high above them in a pine tree, and they rode on listening to its beautiful song…
