a fishing village in the mist

A Fishing Village in the Mist.

The sea and coast was covered in a dense fog. The mist lay spread out for many miles in all directions. Out at sea it covered the waves, as the ocean heaved and rolled peacefully. Inland the mist lay all about. It covered the trees and shrubs, and the fishing huts of the village.

The small houses of the village lay huddled in a circle around the harbor, like a group of old women gathered around a fire. They lay in a semi-circle from the top of the hill, downwards towards the harbor. Alongside the pier, half a dozen small fishing boats lay fastened and moored. They bobbed gently up and down in the water along with the motion of the waves. Sometimes the side of a boat would knock against the wood of the pier. Then it would drift on securely again in the small waves.

The mist lay spread out thickly over everything. A foot-path led up amongst the bush on the dunes alongside the village. The waves crashed on the beach covered in a thick cloak of mist. A dog barked in the village. Three seagulls screamed over the rocks on the beach, as they swooped and dove from above.

Smoke drifted up in thin fingers from the huts in the fishing village. The mist lay spread out finely everywhere, and would not lift soon. There was the sound of children playing, and the dog barked once more.

The End.
