The Girl in the Rain-shower.
The girl was on her way from school as she walked down towards the bus-stop. The rain clouds were hanging ominously above in thick gray blankets. Soon they broke and the rain was pouring down from the sky on her.
She walked faster in the rain, but did not start running. She was quite wet when she reached the shelter of the bus-stop at the bottom of the block. Here she found two other girls and a boy, all of whom were younger than her. The rain was still pouring down.
She stood underneath the over-hang of the bus-stop with the other children as they waited for the rain to pass. The drops clattered in multitudes on the small tin roof of the bus-shelter. The water ran down in thick stream alongside the curb, until it fell into a nearby gutter, and washed away out of sight.
The next bus was only due to come along in about twenty minutes time, and the children stood in the rain and waited. It was refreshing and almost pleasant in a wet, rainy sort of way. The girl smiled to herself as the rain kept pouring down. The three smaller children were chattering amongst themselves behind her on the small wooden bench of the bus-shelter.
She stood silently and looked at the wet world about her, as the rain fell and made puddles and streams all along the concrete pavement. The girl loved the rain in a way, she thought to herself, and still the rain broke from the sky…
