heaven

from the ABC set ФФ Short Stories

She comes to meet me as I arrive at the terminal. I have no luggage and as such I am not hampered by carrying bags. She is beautiful with short dark hair, dark eyes and a slightly tanned complexion. We converse easily as we walk, the way old friends would do. The terminal is large and spacious, and milling with crowds as we walk though it.

Outside the sun is shining and the weather is fair. It is a magnificent world, and a magnificent day, out in the sun underneath the clear blue sky. Here the crowds that wander about are smaller, and the people walk about in couples or in small groups. The city lies spread out around us. Large pyramids in pristine condition tower majestically and about them are beautiful landscaped gardens and accompanying architecture, such as flower beddings filled with fresh growth, built all around. Through these are the broad passageways of the pedestrian walks where myself and her walk happily along.

Here a noble pharaoh, with a shiny and shaved bald head, might walk around amongst the people and have them kiss his signet ring one at a time. They would be waiting humbly at a distance until it is their turn to come forward and kiss his ring. In this way the benevolent ruler may bestow his blessings on his subjects. I reflect on these thoughts as the two of us walk on among the lovely gardens and walkways.

Soon we find ourselves in her apartment. It has a view of the city, and this part of it is small adobe buildings like hers, scattered in a dense mass before ones view. It is a wonderful view as of an ancient city, and it has a haze as of desert heat about it. Nowhere in this world does one find any signs of technology. Her apartment is large and sparsely furnished. Everything is basic but conforms to the needs of one’s everyday life. She shows me my room, and then the two of us go and sit in the lounge to talk, read and relax.

I have only one day in heaven, therefore I rest and enjoy it. It will soon be over and I will go back to my daily living and grind. But for now I have no worries or cares, I am just enjoying the time I spend alone with her. I value her company, and our love, for the short time we have together…
