Inspiration.
Today I could find no inspiration for writing a short piece of prose, so I decided that I would write something about the topic ‘inspiration’ itself. This would be ‘inspiration’ as it applies to myself and my writing.
I sit and meditate for hours, sometimes even days, on ideas and inspiration for my stories. If I am fortunate, I can get one or more good ideas for short prose and stories, every other day. Sometimes however, I can go for two weeks or more without finding any ideas for my writing. This is brain-wracking work, and sometimes I just give it an indefinite break altogether for a while.
If the story-machine of my sub-conscious is working well though, I can regularly churn out a good piece of short writing. Lately I have tried writing what I very loosely term ‘reviews’, about books that I have read. One can always find some way or idea for finding material to write about, if one really wishes to do so.
And so I go on day after day, just sitting and thinking. When a good thought and inspiration seizes me, I will then jump up and commence with my next small project of writing. But inspiration is indeed hard to come by, and it takes a lot of deep thought and contemplation.
