Pedigree
When you buy a thoroughbred dog you get papers with it. This is to prove the pedigree of the dog. It means the dog is registered and has pedigree ancestors. The forebears and the whole bloodline is similarly registered and are of the same pedigree. This is to prove that the dog is a pure specimen of his sort, and that his bloodline has in no way been tainted. Thus you can trace the history of the dog officially, and prove that he is pure…
In Parting
Two men travelled down a country road by foot. They walked alongside over the paved road for miles each day. By night they would camp out next to the roadside and sup together, where after they would both fall asleep under the starry sky. The next day they would be travelling along the road again, walking side by side and keeping each other company. In this fashion they travelled on along the road for many days. One day, however, they came to a fork in the road. They greeted each other and they split up, because they were both headed for different destinations. Their homes lay along different routes. Now each of them walked on alone on their separate paths, in search of new company, and headed for home...
A local custom
In Africa there is a custom when visiting a tribal village. Once one has arrived at the village, one does not enter uninvited. You go and sit under a large tree outside the village, designated for the purpose of waiting, and ask someone nearby to announce your arrival to the chief of the village. You then sit and wait for him to arrive, so that you may have a pow-wow. The chief is at liberty to take is time as it is his village and his tribe. And so he does. You may sit for a few hours; an undetermined amount of time. Eventually however, on his own good time, the chief may actually send someone out, to call you into the village and grant you an audience. Until he does so you just sit and wait patiently under the shade of the tree, regardless of how much time elapses. The reason for this custom; is because it is a way to show respect.
Growing pains
When you are small you have milk teeth. You lose your milk teeth systematically while you are little, and new ones grow. When you are a young adult, your wisdom teeth have to be extracted, for medical reasons. Then, as you mature, over the decades you start to loose teeth, and this time you loose them permanently, and eventually you get dentures. Either way, teeth come and go…
A purpose:
A computer program is pre-programmed. Once you initiate it, it runs from point A to point Z exactly as it was programmed to do by the programmer. It never deviates in slightest but performs every task it was programmed to in an exact sequence. It runs smoothly and efficiently without any errors. It was designed to do this in order to perform a specific desired task which its creator desires. It works towards this end and purpose, and no other. Usually the program would have a practical application.
A Soul.
Souls are like blowing smoke-rings. You light a cigarette and take a deep drag from it. Then you slowly blow out the air in slow repetitions, forming a circle with your mouth. The smoke-rings come out one by one, and form individual circles of smoke as you exhale. The smoke-ring drifts and floats in the air, but quickly dissipates, and then it vanishes. The human soul is the same…
Pay day
A rich man might sometimes own a stable of racing horses. He does this as it is his passion, hobby and past-time. It is difficult to actually convert it into a profitable enterprise, because you are competing with many other owners, and only once in while one of your horses may actually win a race. As such you do it more for the love of it, than in hope to make a profit. As in any other business you are lucky if you can just break even at the end of the day, and make the undertaking pay for itself. This is probably seldom the case, and on the contrary, it costs you a lot of money and work. Trainers, jockeys and stable-hands have to paid. Horses have to be fed, groomed and their health and well-being looked after. This all costs a lot of money, and a ‘win’ only comes once in a while. Nonetheless, it is these exceptional occasions when one of your horses does indeed comes in, that makes it all worth while. The day your horse wins a race; it is payday…
Discipline
Steel is forged in a furnace. To temper it, and harden it, it is then cooled and re-heated. The process is repeated until the steel has reached its ultimate strength. This process is called ‘tempering’ the steel. A soldier is much the same; he has to go through extremes of physical and mental training before he is hardened to be a soldier. Thus discipline is instilled in a soldier.
The Lion’s Kill
In the wild, a pride of lions may bring down an antelope from the herd, and feast on it as a meal. Soon the hyenas and vultures will draw near in the hope of getting a bite to eat as well. These scavengers, however, are not allowed near the carcass until the lions have finished their feast, as it was the lion’s kill. Of this the lion makes sure with his sharp claws, and his noble instinct…
Rehabilitation:
In childhood you get a story of a locomotive which goes up a hill and says to himself; 'I think I can, I think I can.' Once he gets over the hill and hits the open country, he is running smoothly, and says to himself; 'I know I can, I know I can...' Coming back from a setback or physical injury is like this. This is how every battle is won; inch by inch, and yard by yard...
Destiny:
A tightrope-walker walks in a precise line on a rope, from one end to the other...
Tjeila-time:
In our country if you have a steady job, you will probably knock off at five in the afternoon. This is referred to as ‘tjeila’-time. If you are a builder for instance, everyone will stop working at five o’ clock, and clean and put away their tools, and then retire home relaxing and awaiting the next days work. After the assigned work for the day is completed, it is tjeila-time for us all…
Burrito
A burrito is nice to eat; because a burrito has a bit of ‘Oomph’
