the mime

The Mime.

I am walking around the flea-market. It is quite a busy Sunday, and the people mill around. I listen to a live musician at a stall, and smoke a cigarette or two while I do so. He is quite good for a one-man band, and sings cool songs.

Afterward I slowly walk back through the market, and go to listen to the gumba-band on their xylophones. I see a mime I had seen previously at the musician’s stall. He amuses passing individuals with his antics. Some passerby he tries to approach is not so amused, and walks brusquely on past him. Typical to one of his trade, this does not break his stride. In truth, this brush-off does not seem to affect him at all, as he carries on with is antics.

He is a cool customer, as well as a good mime. With a white-painted face he approaches two young women. He gestures at the one girl’s belly button-piercing, and she laughingly shows it to him. He pulls a happy face and smiles as he inspects her belly-button. He gives her a thumbs-up. Both girls are in hysterics as they part company with the mime.

He in turn, puts back on his mock-serious face, and approaches the next customer with it. This is a baby in a carriage. The mime with the white face and white gloves makes funny gestures at the baby. The infant laughs in wonder and amazement. The mother stands by and laughs, but also keeps a close eye open.

Then the mime moves on and enters the stall of an ‘old acquaintance’ where he promptly, and uninvited, takes in position in a chair, and rests for a few minutes from his hard act. Soon he is on the move, and on the prowl again.

I laugh, as I bid him farewell in my mind, and take in a direction of my own…

The End.
