A Summer Day.
The happy couple walks down the street hand-in-hand. They are still in love and walk happily down the pavement. Happiness shines like sunshine in their eyes. They are on a lover’s stroll, and walk on in the light summer breeze.
The sun is shining warm and pleasant above, and the sky is a bright porcelain-blue. The streets are quiet, as there is no noise of traffic and dogs barking. The birds sing happy tunes in the trees above their heads as they walk past. They walk past an old tenement building and the music from a radio drifts from a window above them.
The song that is playing is ‘Could You be Loved’ by Bob Marley and The Wailers. They listen and enjoy the tune as they walk on down the road. The trees planted among the flag-stones are tall, and the bright green of summer. Children play with a foot-ball in an alley-way that they walk past.
They make a lot of noise as they scuffle amongst each other for the ball. They are some of the well-known neighbourhood kids, and the couple greet them as the walk by. A few of the children greet them in return, but most of their interest is in the ball that they are kicking. They play on with the round football, kicking it from the one to the other, as others try to intercept it.
They pass old Mister Ogilvy’s grocery shop, and see him inside behind the counter tending to two customers. Two old women doing their morning shopping. The couple walk on down the block. They are heading home, and the woman now has her arms folded in the crook of the man’s elbow. They look at each other for a brief moment and smile, and then they walk on.
As they walk, they look at the china-blue sky, and listen to the birds in the trees. Their shoes echo soft and rhythmically off the pavement, and the wind caresses their bodies gently…
