The Farmer.
The man is a cattle farmer; he had been one all his life. He stands on the edge of his property, and looks over his herd. They were thinning, and in need of fresh pasture. But the veldt was still dry and yellow, as the rains had not yet come.
He looked over to the blue horizon, as the sun was shining above. The veldt was spread out pale and yellow before him. Clumps of trees were scattered over the savannah. When would the rain come? He hoped that it would be soon.
When the rain finally does come, the veldt will recover, and he will have fresh new pasture for his herd. It was all he hoped and prayed for during the long hot days. The rain would come, the pans will fill up with water, and the grass and animals will recover.
Five birds flew over a thorn tree nearby, and a bull bellowed in a low tone from amidst the herd. Insects were a-buzzing all across the veldt. A few yellow butterflies floated past a bush near him. The wind stirred the tall yellow prairie grass gently.
The farmer stood and waited in the sun with his hat pulled over his face for shade. The rain must come soon now. It will arrive any day. He stands patiently and waits as his cattle graze.
The End.
