From an evolutionary perspective, the mind has three stages of development. The fist and most basic is an insect’s mind, which works entirely on subconscious, thus ‘instinct’. As such it is as if a bee runs on automatic. Secondly, a higher developed mind such as a baboon or primate has a large subconscious but already has small frontal lobes as well; the conscious. Due to its large subconscious (cerebellum) a baboon can sense an insect under a stone. If it lifts a stone, it will find the insect it seeks as food. It can also by this means grasp onto thresholds as it climbs the krantzes.
Lastly one gets the highest developed mind, which is the human mind. It has a smaller subconscious and a large cerebrum (conscious). Thus humans are capable of original and independent thought. The can invent and create. In nature, whichever type of mind, it is all a question of balance…
