Victoria.
The morning was just breaking, and the first light was dim and grey outside. Victoria had woken up a short while earlier, and by now she was already fully awake. The light became stronger as the sun slowly started to rise, and Victoria decided that it was a good time for her morning walk. She closed up the cottage, and shut the front door behind her as she left. She walked down the path in the cool early morning air.
The countryside was lovely this early in the morning, and she looked at the green hills and fields about her, lit up in a feint pink and blue glow. The birds were singing joyfully in the trees, as was their early morning custom. Victoria headed down the path towards the vineyards. In the countryside most people rose early from bed, and some workers were already out in the vineyards, preparing for the day’s work.
She went down to the cottage of her aunt Sylvia, and found her on the porch as she did each morning. They greeted each other, and her aunt asked her if she would like a bit of breakfast. Then they sat down at the small table on the porch, and ate some buttered bread, and drank some orange-juice. While they ate and drank, they looked out over the beautiful green vineyards sparkling silver and gold from the sunshine and the dew.
The sun crept up over the mountain, and showed its red face, before slowly climbing higher on its path. Their breakfast and conversation were done, so Victoria got up to leave, and said good-bye to her aunt as she did so. Then she walked down the path towards the vineyards, to venture a bit further on her morning walk. She entered the vineyards at the old wooden gate, which was broken of age and frequent use.
As she walked through the rows of vines, she looked at the budding green grapes, and the broad leaves of the plants. The sun glistened off the dew on the leaves in magical sparkles of light. The country air was fresh and invigorating. The sun shone pleasantly just above the eastern horizon. She walked on down the vineyard smiling happily to herself…
