Moby Dick.
(‘Moby Dick’ by Herman Melville, Wordsworth Editions Limited, 1992.)
I had wanted to read this book when I was about ten years old, at the library where my mother worked. When I was that age I found it too difficult, and only read about the first fifty pages, before having to give it up.
Now, almost thirty years later I did manage to read it. I enjoyed it a lot, as I like reading nineteenth-century literature, and am also very fond of tales about the sea. It is also of course a great story, and one of the all time great American novels.
I spent about a week reading it, as I tend to read a book quite carefully. It was nonetheless well worth the time and effort that I spent on reading it. I have a small model of a sailing-ship that I use for reference as I read the book. This edition also has a handy preface regarding the author’s life.
I really enjoyed this book, and am glad that I finally got around to reading it after all these years…
The End.
