New Poets.

When I was younger and started out reading poetry, I read a lot of Edgar Allen Poe. He was my favorite poet at the time. The result was that my own poems tended to be quite long, as I followed his style to a large extent. With the passage of time I started to read 'e.e cummings', and began writing shorter poems myself.

This has worked well for me over the last few years, and it seems to suit my style of writing poetry. During this same period I have discovered a few new poets that fit into my small catagory of favorite poets. The two that I like most of these new poets that I have discovered, is Emily Dickenson and WH Auden.

I do not like, nor ardently read, all their work, but rather I only read certian favorite poems of theirs that I like. Among the Emily Dickenson poems that I like most are "An awful tempest mashed the air..." and "The crickets sang and set the sun..." The Auden poem that I am enjoying the most at the moment is "As I went out one evening." Both these poets appeal to me because of their style and content. I can re-read any of these poems several times an afternoon when the mood suits me.

These days I only write shorter poems in my own work, and very rarely will I write a longer poem. I am also always looking for new poets that I might enjoy reading, like the two mentioned above. Currently I am getting a lot of enjoyment out of WH Auden aand Emily Dickenson's work.

End.
