Singular (Inspiration Point)

from the ABC set Love, or something like it (Autumn 2008)

Singular (Inspiration Point) (7th November, 2008, 1.15pm)

Single.
Tick the box, choose a job, choose life…
it’s not always a choice, you know!

I swear at the page;
the screen lies, poised
to go for the jugular;

have you been facebooked yet?
Nineteen comments on my
lack of a partner;
it was only an edit, nothing has
altered, much.

Pride sneers.

They should brand us, really;
coin me a new word, please!
Here, I’ll mint one:

Singular.

No, not like Bridget-sodding-Jones;
it weighs more than a ton
on my shoudlerblades, folks!

I am singular.
I like being singular.
There’s less washing-up.

Love it Jennifer. You are definitely a singularly good poet, no wait, did I say good? I meant Brilliant! and no mistake. Val x

How dare you defy convention! We should all be doubular. Choose someone who can afford a dish-washer. That's all Auntie Static has to say about that one. Next problem, please...

yeah i was facebooked, a tattoo application wanted me to sign up for a new dating application, but there wasn't an option to be searching electrical appliances so i gave it a miss - 'it weighs more than a ton on my shoulder blades' is wry, and the beginning reminded me of Trainspotting, also wry - and the ending, i like the appreciation of the greener grass, because being singular has its very good points (next person in a snuggly couplet who gives me a pitying look when i say that can kiss my Caramella..) Expressive write Jennifer, well done.

I was thinking about writing something on the IPOW, but I can't better this.

Lovely.

Val - thank you!

FTSE - dishwashers are bad for the environment, and wouldn't fit in my residence! And why should I be doubular? I get bored...

Nicky - I confess I nicked a few words from Trainspotting. I was trying to be representative of me! They just fit.. cannot stand smug couples, smocougples.

Ewan - high praise indeed!

Thank you all!

Really worthy of a cherry. Love the final verse.
Excellent write.

PS Thanks for the acknowledgement. Received it OK.

Good, glad it got through, Luigi!

Look! I have doubular cherries! Thanks, ABC!
