Throw me a bone

from the ABC set Summer Night City (Summer 2008)

Throw me a bone (10th June 2008, 10.23pm)

Can you hear me in the silences
in the house where you live, alone?
Does my laughter abound, that loud,
homecoming sound, behind the traffic
and Sky Sports One? Are you having fun
with her, the new girl that stole my name and
took my heart? Do you think we’ll stay apart?
Can you feel me in between your empty sheets
when she’s not there during the week?
Does her body compare; does she respond
beneath you, above you, the way I loved you?
Has she had to learn to share? Are the
conversations good, and does she hurt
you like I could? Do you lie to her?
And in your empty house, who is there to
keep you fed, clothed and mucked out?
Who is there to lay awake and miss you
now when you don’t make it home?
Throw me a bone, call me and let it out;
in the middle of the night, we can set the
past to rights; we can stamp over old ground,
and in your words I’ll drown, in those familiar
tones; I will take my chances in my ears;
I no longer fear that I’ll fall backwards down
the stairs into our years, misled by the phone.
Yes, throw me a bone.

You've captured a melancholia here so beautifully. The rhyming meter is inspiringly inventive too.

Another terrific piece.

Thank you, Dy, I think it's quite song-like! One of those that just flowed...

I didn't want to say it again, but of course you're right about this being song-like.

I would really like to put music to this one.

Can you write music? I am sadly not at all musically gifted. I did bash away at a piano for ten years at my mothers' insistence. It was hell. I was very upset, however when she sold the piano two years ago. I cried.

I see a good story in your piano piece...

Yes, I can and do write and produce my own music. I left a response on your 'Cherry Bomb' piece but for the sake of repeating myself, I have my own little recording studio as well and would love to write you some music. I even have a vocalist in mind.

I will get back to you on this in the near future, once I've put a few ideas together.

Wow, sounds awesome!

I'll start concentrating on lyrics, rather than poems!

Could this be the start of something?!

Dynamaso | June 11, 2008 - 23:49

I think it could be, Jen. But please, don't just concentrate on lyrics. Write whatever you see fit and if lyrics come, then we can use them.
