A shaft of summer sunshine
sets my tinder mind alight
and sears a thought
of coming loss.
Stricken,
I sink
in seeming contemplation,
clothes half-pegged.
I watch the blue
of winding sheets.
They bloat and sag
beneath the beady gaze
of a jet clad chorus.
The garden-scented air
now drifts away.
And in its place
the stench of whitest lilies
curls in fruity nostrils
with a reek
of caramel decay.
Foreshadowing of grief,
relentless, moves across
my sunny summer day,
eclipsing faintest hope,
and leaves scant courage
in its sway.

My stepfather is probably in his final days. I do not know how to begin to comfort my Mother for the loss of the love of her life and gentle humourous companion.
Very nice poem

Thank you for reading my poem Camilla. All you can do is be there for her. Although you might not feel you are doing much, I'm sure it will make a difference to her. Take care.

Just hold their hands,tell
them you love them. Maybe put

Show pictures, mix in,and eat bit feel
like it.Time for quietness to. Just be there.
