Some walk with eyes upon the sky
Well my friends that is not I,
I walk with eyes upon the ground
Here new insights can be found…..
The pavement forms an urban skin
Pipes beneath like veins within,
Chewing gum freckles, dried puke moles
Patterns tattooed by black manholes.
Fag ends like unsightly hair
Dog turd pimples here and there,
Pee stain warts near late night bars
Cracks resemble self-harm scars.
Burger wrappers ride the wind
Food too fast to e'er be binned,
The take out cups from a coffee shop
Like autumn leaves they too must drop.
Empty bags devoid of sweets
The dregs from sundry other eats,
The ground is home to all this clutter
On path, on road, on verge, in gutter.
Still my eyes peruse the street
And then before my wandering feet,
A sight appears to lift my heart
A pavement Picasso and his art.
Chalked upon a paving slab
Now raised above its fellows drab,
A still life fit to grace my walls
To be rubbed out as darkness falls…..
I walk with eyes upon the ground
Here new insights can be found.

Beautiful, descriptive poem, David. Reminded me of the film 'American Beauty'! Love these lines:
'The pavement forms an urban skin
Pipes beneath like veins within,
Chewing gum freckles, dried puke moles
Patterns tattooed by black manholes.'

Very descriptive to
real life! I have seen to
young men, in jeans and torn
chalking beautiful pictures on
pavements.from book pictur 4" wide and photoed if camera with me.Go library said and bought the book.
Maybe "Raphael".etc:
If sad look at the ground, cos: I know where
there is dirt there is money, and crosses and things? We have often some on early shifts as once mine was.
this reminds me of "Have you seen the old man
on the streets of london".
Well done on the cherry.

Thank you so much Julie, glad you liked it. The guy in the poem is often in my local high street, he works so hard only for it to be rubbed out again, not sure I'd like it if my poems existed for only such a short time.
take care Julie, its always a pleasure to hear from you.
