NO MEDALS FOR NODAR (I.P.)

from the ABC set THE HUMAN CONDITION

Nodar will win no medals,
His dreams, like him, are gone...
In Whistler all was lost.

Like Kasimierz he left the gate,
Like Nicholas he'd crash...
In Whistler all was lost.

Just as Ross before him,
He will not race again...
In Whistler all was lost.

He lived to slide,
To race, to glide...
In Whistler all was lost.

Indeed it is all the things you ask, David but above all it is a beautiful poem and a more than worthy tribute.

And, last but by no means least, a splendid post for this week's IP;-)

Fantastic poem, I feel the loss! Although, could you please explain, who is Whistler?

kheldar | February 21, 2010 - 20:56

Hi Kahdai.

Thanks for your comments, glad it worked for you. Whistler is a place in Vancouver and its where the Olympic luge, skeleton and bobsleigh events are taking place. Sadly Nodar Kumaritashvili was killed in practice the day before the opening ceremony.

Deeply sad reflection, like a black hole of loss,
stunning in it's simplicity.

Hi Shirley, thanks for that. I always think it so sad when a sportsman or woman is killed, so I'm glad this poem has struck the right note.

I agree with shoe - the simplicity is very effective! Love the repetition too - a beautiful tribute ;)

Thanks for explaining that kheldar, I could tell it was about the loss of life (& not of sport-victory).
It's sad, because someone dies trying to do what they love most, or to die trying atall. Kahdai x
