THE VOICE, THE CHOICE, MY FRIENDS REJOICE

from the ABC set THE INNER CONDITION

The voice, the voice
Once more the voice,
Whispering he's got no choice;
Tomorrow he must end it all
Take a leap from structure tall,
Or make a meal of his pills
Sure to cure him of his ills.

A choice, a choice
He has a choice,
He need not listen to the voice;
He can choose the path of life
Work to conquer pain & strife,
From structure tall enjoy the view
Use his pills to pull him through.

The voice, the voice
Once more the voice,
But my friends we can rejoice;
He has found the wherewithal
To countermand its nightly call,
Its whisperings are all in vain
He will not pay it heed again.

Rejoice, rejoice
He's made his choice,
To live still, to still the voice.

Great stuff, but think what the voice actually says

(he's got no choice;
Tomorrow he must end it all
Take a leap from structure tall,
Or make a meal of his pills
Sure to cure him of his ills), I think,

would benefit from speech marks to SHOW it is the voice, if you will?

Hi Jennifer,

I was unsure whether or not to put in speechmarks, couldn't decide if reporting what was said was the same as quoting it, if you get my drift.

I will ponder on your valued input

I really enjoyed this, A word that has been with me for many a year is fortitude, (it featured a lot in a book I read when young) and this poem depicts it in spades,

Love the comparison drawn in these lines:

'Take a leap from structure tall,
Or make a meal of his pills
Sure to cure him of his ills.'

and

'From structure tall enjoy the view
Use his pills to pull him through.'

Really works ;) Glad the person in question pulled through!

Thanks Rebecca, I'm glad that bit worked.

P.S. The voice isn't yet still, but "the person in question" is working on it
