THE WIFE I KNEW WAS STOLEN

from the ABC set THE HUMAN CONDITION

The eyes which once would wink at me
Stare sightless into space,
The lips which once would smile at me
Sit slack upon her face;
The voice which whispered love to me
Sleeps silent in her throat,
The spirit which reached out to me
Walks a path remote.
The life which pulsed so strong in her
Is locked up deep inside,
The wife I knew was stolen
The day our newborn died.

The eyes which once would wink at me
Saw her baby die,
The lips which once would smile at me
Kissed our child goodbye;
The voice which whispered love to me
Screamed 'WHY!' then spoke no more,
The spirit which reached out to me
Fell shattered on the floor.
The life which pulsed so strong in her
All but died that day,
The wife I knew was stolen
When our newborn passed away.

A sad but excellent depiction of a mother who has lost a child.... I like it.

With this subject matter kheldar, it would be easy to rant and run off at a tangent, but to do it in this way with pretty tight form and not get distracted, seems to give it a bit of distance and makes it all the more poignant. Really well done.
