Sometimes

Sometimes
a word
or criss-cross of words
will surprise me
'Write it down’ they say
'Write them now' they urge
But I don’t care
to eat green shoots
out of time
And time is like liquor

So I throw
those words
back to the mercurial depths
to get licked
and teased and kicked
into a bolder shape
along the mind's bed.
