A British Officer walked up to an American Sergeant and said,"The American soldiers are the most ruthless, bloody bastards I've ever fought with."
The American Sergeant gave him a surprised look and said,"Oh yeah....why do you say that?"
The British Officer leaned against the tent post and said,"They don't hesitate....they shoot without hesitation....as if the enemy were a target."
The Sergeant looked down the barrel of the rifle he was cleaning and said,"Why do you suppose they do that?"
The British Officer grinned and said,"The Tele...Westerns...Americans love their guns...they were raised clicking plastic pistols at each other as children...that is why.....they simply...shoot."
The Sergeant thought for a moment and said,"That does make sense....I had two six guns when I was five years old...got them on my fifth birthday...hell....I shot everything."
The British Officer asked,"Exactly...what is America's fascination with firearms?"
The Sergeant looked down at his rifle and said,"John Wayne, Clint Eastwood.....heroes...Hollywood heroes...good guys and bad guys...no gray areas....we shot the bad guys down in our childhood imaginations...it's just how we are."
The British Officer said,"So...the gun is the symbol of power...to protect good and destroy evil."
The American Sergeant grinned and said,"A gun is just a gun....good and evil pull the trigger...good and evil live....or die."
The British Officer smiled back and said,"I would guess it is which one that pulls the trigger faster."
The American Sergeant leaned back in his cot as if to take a nap and said,"Faster has little to do with it....Brits, Yanks, Frenchies...whatever...we are Soldiers...it is our aim to stay alive in the hell of war...we Americans are just a little more use to it all."
