Thankful (17.)

from the ABC set Thankful

I woke up Thursday morning feeling great...I had breakfast and rushed out the door to get my mowing done.

"Crap" I said out loud...I had left the mower at Mrs Leech's house. I drove to her house to get my mower. I ran in her back yard and pushed my mower so fast and hard that the back wheel cracked.

I kept a spare wheel at home and went back to get it. I left and had my yards done by noon. I went home...took a quick shower and headed for Tammy's house on Jefferson Street. As I got out of my car in front of Tammy's house...I noticed that I had a Navy blue and a black sock on...I just chuckled and walked up to her door.

Tammy came to the door and invited me in. She looked so pretty...brown hair tied back...blue jeans and a white T shirt...perfect. I met her mom...we talked a little ....Tammy and I left for Thankful's place.

I was in teenage guy heaven...driving my car with a pretty girl next to me.

I began to worry a little about what Thankful might think of me bringing Tammy along. I should have asked her.

I pulled into Thankful's drive and there she was on her front porch. She was wearing a green sequined dress with feathers...a purple sweater and her usual Packer's hat.

I opened Tammy's door and we walked up on the porch. Thankful said,"Well Tommy...are you going to introduce us or let us guess names?" Tammy giggled as I introduced them. Thankful said,"My oh my..what a beautiful young lady...come on in you two...I'll get the tea and three cups."

On the way in, Thankful told me that she had made a tape for me but I wasn't to listen to it yet...she made me promise not to listen to it until she said it was OK. She marked the tape with a big X.

Thankful ordered Tammy and I to sit on the davenport...close together. She claimed that courting couples should never sit far apart. Thankful and Tammy were like grandmother and granddaughter...they talked and talked and talked about clothes, shoes and Bobby Sherman.

Finally...Thankful began continuing her story....she said,"In 1928...I got married again....I had been home around a year and a man named, Thomas Silger caught my eye at the summer Fair....he was tall, dark and handsome....and rich.....my fifth marriage lasted a little over a year....Thomas lost everything in the stock market crash...I found out how pathetic he was without money."

She had an angry look on her face as she said,"He actually tied a bloody rock around his neck and dove in Grover's pond."

Then she slapped her hand on her knee laughing and said,"Mum nicknamed him Rocky Bottom!" We all busted out laughing as the door bell rang.
