Thankful got up to answer the door. Tammy whispered to me,"Thank you for bringing me...I love this." It was Officer Joe Blankenship and Officer Lee Short. Thankful let them in and mumbled,"I hate cops...everywhere they go...there's trouble."
Tammy and I stood up and Thankful told us to stay right where we were. Joe looked at me smiling and said,"Hello Tommy...I need to ask you a few questions later about Mrs. Leech."
I nodded my head yes as Thankful asked, Well...what do you want?" Joe introduced himself and Officer Short. Thankful asked if short was for stature or how little he was endowed?" Tammy, me and Joe held back laughter as Officer Short told Thankful to just answer the questions.
Tammy moved a little closer to me...grabbed my hand and held it....I sure never knew that just holding someones hand would make me feel so good...but it did.
Joe asked Thankful about the three murdered ladies. Thankful acknowledged that she knew them all...they were friends who turned out to be old bitches. Thankful's answers got shorter and shorter. Joe ask Thankful where she was on the night of the murders and Thankful told him that she was busy teaching the Mayor how to please his fat ass wife!"
Joe gave up on his questioning but told Thankful he would probably be back with Detective Don Croze. Thankful grinned and said,"Oh yes...Detective Croze...I know that old bloody prick....he accused me of murder once.... years ago....you better come back alone...he is not welcome in my house....I won't say a word to him!"
The Officers left and we all sat back down. I continued to hold Tammy's hand...rested on my leg. Thankful thought it was so sweet.
Thankful said,"Anyhow...before we were so rudely interrupted...I believe I was talking about, Rocky Bottom...George and mum paid to have him buried and that was that.....I had a few boyfriends after Thomas and was pretty gun shy....George built a cottage for me...the one out back...poor George passed away in 1937....mum passed the next year."
Thankful got teary eyed as she told us,"They were both sickly...George with the cancer and mum with heart troubles...I cared for them both...I loved them so much...how I miss them sometimes."
"My sixth marriage would come in 1940....oh he was a rounder....Mathew Lanehart was his name...I had never known a man with such a wild heart....strong as steel but he could touch me like a feather....a wonderful man...a very wonderful man."
