Sarah scooted closer to him...laid her head on his shoulder and softly said,"Pastor....I mean John....they can take the title of Pastor from you but they can't take God from you......they can't take you from God." John looked down at her hand on her lap and said,"You have the most beautiful hands and you say the most beautiful things."
He began to cry and Sarah reached to hold his hand. She softly said,"You are the finest man I've ever known....you have the ability to find a reason for compassion and learn in your heart...you will preach again...I have no doubt. John was embarrassed about crying and told Sarah that it was time for him to leave. She demanded that he stay for supper. The days...then weeks went by. John worked at the Willowheart orphanage for meals and a room.
Every evening he would either walk with Sarah or they would sit on the front porch steps. They talked, laughed and became best of friends. He read his bible with a new understanding. It was a warm August night when John asked for Sarah's hand in marriage. Sarah cried and said "Yes" a hundred times. They made plans to make the world their home in the spring of 1933.
They were married on August 12th. 1932. It was a hot day but the breeze stayed steady in the back yard of the mansion. Only five people were present at the wedding....John, Sarah, Washington, Gretchen and Roy Smithens. John and Sarah performed the ceremony themselves. Washington drove them to the train station in Indianapolis. They had rented an entire train car exclusively....to take them to Colorado for their honeymoon.
As the train left...Sarah leaned out the window to wave at Washington. John pulled her back in...wrapped his arms around her and said,"Having you as my wife is heaven...I could never set foot on a golden street and care less if I was holding your hand in a meadow." He kissed her passionately and said,"I don't think I can wait until we get to Denver."
Sarah smiled...stepped back from him and slowly took her white satin gloves off. She stepped out of her shoes and kicked them under a seat. She unzipped her white satin and lace dress...pulled the straps down her shoulders and dropped the dress on the floor. She stepped out of her dress and was totally nude.
She looked down and untied her hair. She looked back up to see John with tears in his eyes. He said,"There is no flower in the universe to compare." Sarah stepped up to him. She looked in his eyes and remembered her dream. His beautiful brown eyes were filled with a thousand wild horses. She gently placed both of her hands on his face and gave him a smile that could start a storm. She wiped his tears and put her arms around his neck.
With a shaking voice...he said,"I love you Sarah." They made love that would rival the greatest lovers of all time. Sarah and John Saylen traveled the world's poorest countries. John planted seeds of the gospel and Sarah gave them seeds to grow gardens.
Sarah was standing one evening...gazing at the beautiful African sunset...she saw John with his arms draped over a little boy and girls shoulders...talking and laughing. The red sunset appeared as if it were his halo. She noticed a large bird catching the updrafts...sailing in a circle above her.
She didn't think of the fair haired boy at all. She smiled and thought,"Sarah sailing.....Sarah Saylen
