Under the Influence of Love

In this world of loss and hardship
It must be said in truth
That some of us may lose ourselves
And not know what to do.
While we are faced with sorrows
It's hard to look away
Pick up ourselves from off the ground
And then embrace the day.
Some people wish for fortune,
Some others wish for fame,
But me, my love, I wish for us
A future to obtain.

Some people drown their sorrows
In alcohol, which numbs
The pain which now extends their hours
And shades from view the sun.
Some others reach for substances
That seem like easy cures,
If only they had seen before
The suffering they'd endure.
Some people are submerged under
Black tides; can't rise above
But me, I've found a different cure,
The influence of love.

Somewhere beyond the shadows
Lies a world that's pure and new,
Resplendent with bright memories
And dreams for me and you.
And high on the horizon
Where the sky can touch the sea,
Is the hope inside that never dies
Because we know we're free.
