Dying for tomorrow

Some say, in the beginning the earth was at first a shapeless, chaotic mass, with the spirit of man brooding over the dark vapors. Some say that the earth began with light, but I know that the world was dark and cold but a boy stated, “Let there be light” and his name was Lexion. If you want to hear this story keep reading.
In the last minutes before Earth was wiped from the universe, the people who had called it home had started to board ships in an attempt to evacuate as many as they could before the Swordens destroyed the earth. There were at least three hundred, thousand people that were left behind due to the over populating of Earth in the last century. Those who were younger and more promising, in order to preserve the pieces, were given seats aboard one of the thirty eight large city ship called Vaults. Families were tore asunder as brothers were separated, and spouses sent in opposite directions. As the people of earth looked back at their home, some broke down, while others stared in disbelief as they moved farther and farther from their home.
As wave after wave of bombs slammed the surface of the green and blue planet, those that had been left behind ran in a panicked frenzy. Lexion, a boy no older then seventeen watched as the last Vault left Earth's atmosphere and was gone. Lexion would have chosen this time to spend with his parents, yet they where already dead, killed by a Sworden bomb that week. As Lexion watched his only hope for survival fly away, he remained calm, and cold. There were no tears, no scream, no chaos, just calm. The Swordens were destroying his home, and acted as though it was just another day.
When Lexion had been younger his father had taught him to be strong, and to never say quit and die. Now at the age of seventeen he remained true to his father’s words. Lexion had no choice if he wanted to live; he was going to have to take it for himself. Running as fast as his legs could carry him back to his house, surprised to find it still standing. Vaulting the chain link fence, he made a mad dash for his fathers old shed. With a solid kick that was fueled with a running start, Lexion kicked the door in. After a few minutes of rummaging through his father's tools he found what he had been looking for. The laser pistol his dad had kept in case it was ever needed. Though what could it would do now, was beyond Lexion, it just felt good to have it.
Running back into the house through the open back door, he started to collect all the money, clothes and gear he could find. After he had packed duffel's with clothing and supplies he dropped them in his families small ship. Though most families had on now a day's they were not equipped to handle any fire from Sworden ships. Soon after he was ready to go Lexion realized he had left the keys up stairs in his parent’s room. Running up the stairs, he was knocked flat by an near by detonation that almost brought the roof down on top of him. Standing up he finished his trip to his parent’s room and snatched the keys from his father's nightstand. As he turned to leave, that’s when he saw it His father's EnergySaber. With a moment for hesitation Lexion took it from its wall mount and raced back to the ship.
As he hopped into the small jet looking ship, he slid the key in and powered up the engines. As he went to close the door, he thought he heard something over the roar of the engine. After listening for a second, he decided that it had been his imagination. Going to shut the door, he heard it again, this time much louder then before, and he knew from where it had come. Leaping from the safety of the ship he made a mad dash to the window of the house next to his and smashed it in with the Saber. Sticking his head in he saw a little girl, no older then ten huddled in the corner, with a small dog in her arms. After trying to get the girl to come to him she finally stood.
“Do you not know that the Swordens will be hear soon,” Lexion shouted over the roar of explosions.
“I’m scared I want my mom,” replied the little girl.
"There not here, and won't be no matter how much you cry, now do you want to die?” he yelled at her, getting slightly irritated with her naiveness.
“No” she muttered as tears started to roll down her cheeks.
“Then come on!”
“Not without my dog,” she said, giving the dog a quick hug to show that she would not leave without it.
“Then bring him if you have to.” Lexion said as he smashed out the rest of the window.
The little girl then handed Lexion the dog and climbed through the window. Handing her the dog he took hold of her wrist and nearly dragged her to the ship, despite her pleas from him to stop. As they reached the ship, he released her wrist and climbed in and then helps the young girl into the passenger seat. After she was strapped in, he secured himself. "Are you ready?" Lexion asked. The little girl gave a slight nod and Lexion lay on the accelerator. Moments later they had reached the darkness of space. Checking his sensors to make sure they were safe he slowed the ship down.
“Why have we stopped?” asked the young girl
“I want to see my home one last time” replied Lexion, as he watched the once blue orb of life, become a red sphere of death.
“What's your name anyway?" he asked looking over at the girl. The little girl remained silent. "Well I’m Lexion.” Lexion stated turning his attention back towards the destroyed earth.
Then out of nowhere the girl answered. "Angel, but my mommy called me Angey”
“Well Angel we've got to find where your mom and dad went. You know the big ships?”
“No my mom and dad don't love me” She said looking down at her hands, as she spoke.
“What makes you say that?” Lexion asked, concern painted across his face for a moment.
“They always hit me for no reason, and my mom left me for dead that’s why they locked me in that room.” As she said this more tears started to trail down her cheeks.
“Don’t worry I'll find someone to take care of you" Lexion said as he power the ship back up to full speed.
It had been about five hours since they had left Earth and Angel was already getting on Lexion's last nerve.
"And then when I was six I lost my third tooth, but it didn't hurt as bad..."
"Shut up! Please, can you do that for a moment!" said Lexion shouted. Angel jumped from the outburst, shocked that he had yelled at her like that.
"I'm sorry" sobbed Angel
"No, I'm sorry, I just need some quite for now." Lexion said rubbing his eyes.
"What's that?" Angel asked, pointed at something out in the darkness of space.
"Oh no,"
"What is it Lexion?"
"Shhh, stay quiet that’s a...."
