Stop all those clocks and dim the city lights
Redemption has been sung and Marconi died
Off the off ramp at the border, guy
Back Brake lights of a Buick 45
With wood and steel we strut and stroll
From burning streets to a sweetheart highway
With one man’s cowboy heart and soul
From 2 bar heaters to Hammersmith Palais
Shake your fist at the gates of the west
And feel the distance to the Nile
Stretch your arms to the desert
To live and dance a while
Muzzled anger
Fearless drive
Laugh at death
To feel alive
Where diatribe
Through rotting teeth
Lay down died
A funeral wreath
Numbers, figures and plastic discs
Scrawls on paper and crumpled lists
Are all he left as legacy
Those of course, and memory.

Confident and well crafted writing. You may be new here but I'll wager your not new to this. Excellent.

Wow thanks! This is a bit of an old one I wrote when Joe Strummer died - stealing the great lines from his songs and trying to capture that cowboy/rebel fragility he had.

I spotted the lyrics (and now have Global A Go-Go in my head)! A nice little tribute to Joe.

Love a bit of Joe! The combination of talent and attitude as well as some gorgeous lyrics.
