A River

from the ABC set Poems

There is a river running through
in the river there are rules

this divide is part of modern life
physically we connect but this
ravine drives us apart
how long can we survive
treading holding breath

words in their hundreds
waiting to spill out
from hungry hearts and mouths

there is a river running through
in the river there are rules

a simple kiss, a touch, a breath
a hair on your tongue your lips
sunlight of the caribbean, streams
through the bedroom window
fresh, painted imagination
in the middle of september

a snatched luxury of comfort
bodies needing closeness
memories to savour, cherish
and nourish empty hours

there is a river running through
in the river there are rules
they will separate me and you.

Third part is brilliant!
Only this part was sortof confusing to me:
a breath
a hair on your tongue your lips

sunlight of the caribbean,
I like that last line though,
& especially liked 'painted imagination'!

Oh well it's rather rude really :) the whole thing really is about modern relationships and how things get in the way, especially when you are a little bit older, things aren't so straightforward, there are more complications!
