Aged To Perfection

from the ABC set Cherry ripe

I am 75 - if the truth be told -
and I’ve read a report
which states that I’m old.
Excuse me if I snort.

What I want to say
is on the tip of my tongue:
there will come a day
when I’m no longer young

but now is not the time;
at three score and fifteen
I am still in my prime.
It must be in the genes.

I’m approaching the stage
when I will have to admit
I’ve reached middle age
but I don’t mind it a bit.

Hi Luigi,

I like this poem, I don't think age means much, it's
the attitude of the individual that counts.

You can be a peter pan even at 75, even if it's
only in your mind.

Thanks for the read.

Jenny.

You are so right, Jenny. You are as young (or old) as you feel is an old cliché but a valid one.
Many thanks from a Peter Pan.

From one Peter Pan to another...like the philosophy behind this one, a lot, Luigi;-)

Dear Tina, we must have drank at the fountain of eternal youth.
I believe it is the only philosophy to adopt.

I'll sure drink to that;-)

luigi_pagano | December 15, 2010 - 17:58

Vodka and orange, was it?

Silver Spun Sand | December 15, 2010 - 18:25

Gin and tonic...if you're askin'?

celticman | December 15, 2010 - 18:28

perhaps old or middle-aged? It's only a number bowling you over with the weight of expectation that...

luigi_pagano | December 15, 2010 - 18:53

Gin and tonic of course, Tina. I wasn't paying attention. I must make a note.

Well done on the cherry, Luigi;-) That will add even more flavour to whatever you're having, perhaps.

Nice to hear from you, celticman.
Old or middle-aged, as far as expectations go it's all in the lap of the gods. Taking the bowling analogy we can say: 75 not out.
Thanks for the comment.

Dear Tina, thank you. The cherry seems to complement the wine that I am drinking which is described as being smooth and fruity. A perfect combination.

'Smooth and fruity' eh, Luigi? A perfect combination in more ways than one, methinks;-)

Quite so, dear Tina. You must be telepathic and able to read my thoughts.

Certamente, signorina SundaysChild, altrimenti si muore. Grazie mille.

Made me chuckle, Luigi - and I agree completely; you're as young as you feel! Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year ;)
