We met last year at the municipal dump
among a collection of recycling bins.
I had an old mower and a bicycle pump,
she had newspapers, bottles and tins.
We gradually increased our trips to the tip;
not just routinely, it was almost a ritual.
It was a weak moment when I let it slip
that I fancied her. She said it was mutual.
There followed a period of perfect bliss
when no wrong words crossed our lips,
no disagreements and nought was amiss
and we behaved like a couple of drips.
Yet good things must come to an end.
Ironic though that on this very dump
she made her mind up I wasn’t a friend
and promptly ditched this hapless chump.

Ah, I think I've been at the same tip, Luigi. I was the one making out by the old fridges. Neat piece, this.

I was attracted by the magnets on the fridges, Mark, but in the end they left me cool. I much preferred the warmth of abandoned cookers. Cheers!

Hi there, Luigi! I have many fridge magnets...most of which were given to me by my girls for mother's day and suchlike over the years. Many a true word is written on a fridge magnet, and surely, here in this poem, as Inspired Writer already points out.
A brilliant take on the I.P. and one of my many favourites of yours.

Dear Tina, I like those that you can move around making up aphorisms and even short poems.
You seem to bring me luck as the appearance of a cherry bears witness.
I wouldn't say it is one of my better ones but glad that it gets your approval.

Hi Rebecca, sorry for the late reply. I was at the Hay Festival for the launch of an anthology in which one of my poems was published. I had never been there and I was looking forward to the experience.
It was worth the visit despite the relative long trip.
Thanks a lot for commenting on the piece and the acquisition of a cherry.

Mark & Tina. I see that you too can't resist the attraction of those magnetic kits. Very inspirational.

Hi Julie. It is very satisfying to receive a cherry.
Somehow a piece seems tastier.
You'd be surprised what people throw away. At the tip I have seen mirrors and furniture still in good conditions but discarded because they were out of fashion.
Relationships are all very well when everything runs smoothly but once disharmony intervenes people grow apart.
There are many varieties of fridge magnets around as you have rightly pointed out.
