A Farewell Dinner

from the ABC set Cherry ripe

I was expecting
quite a bit of flak
the day that I broke up
with Bessie Snow
and started to see
Angela Black.
Surprisingly,
Bessie took it well.
She seemed prepared
to let bygones be bygones,
as far as I could tell,
and forgive this sinner.
She invited Angela and me
to a farewell dinner.
I didn’t see any grief
when she offered me
an aperitif.
I admired the strength
of that woman: what foison!
She pointed to an array of bottles
and with a smile she asked:
What’s your poison?

Anyone who can use the word 'foison' deserves a cherry. Nice one Luigi xx

Thanks Sarah. I understand that our Will (Shakespeare that is) used that word more than once in his plays, but then he was a superb wordsmith.
