I am, I’ll have you know,
a man of simple pleasures.
Not for me the razzmatazz
of discos or night clubs
and all that jazz.
I prefer to spend a lazy day
at home, in comfort,
listening to a play
on radio 4.
I do these kind of things
more and more
and these are the moments
that I treasure.
With a pair of well-worn
slippers on my feet
and reclining
in my favourite armchair,
I indulge in a few hours of leisure.
I still have a pipe by my side
- old habits die hard -
but it is empty
as I no longer smoke.
At the end the day
a cup of tea, Lapsang Suchong
or Earl Grey, will suit me fine.
I am, after all, an ordinary bloke.

'I do this kind of things'
should be either 'I do this kind of thing'
or 'I do these kind of things' - singular or plural?
And you are no ordinary bloke, dear Luigi, and I think your lazy day sounds just about perfect...!

You are absolutely right Jennifer. I had a mental aberration. Corrected it now.

Very nice this one Luigi. Wistful, but not sad. I especially liked your ordinary bloke's taste in tea.

I agree with Jennifer! I'd swap your lazy day for one of my a-level revision filled ones any day ;) And don't try pretend Luigi - you aint an ordinary bloke ;) Lovely poem!

Cheers Ewan. No indulgence would be complete without the aromatic taste of those exotic teas.

I don't envy you your busy days revising for your A levels, Rebecca. Don't overdo it, though, and give yourself some breathing space. From what I remember of my student days it can be very hectic preparing for one's exams.
I thank you for your nice words and appreciating the poem.

My lazy day consists of Football Manager 2009, a few emails and a few flicks of my TV wand ;-p
Shame it happens so rarely though... ;-/
A lovely and relaxing poem, Luigi, thank you for sharing it and well done on the cherry ;-)

Hi Nathan. First of all many thanks for your kind words about this poem.
As for relaxation, people find different ways to wind down or chill out, as youngsters might say.
I can appreciate that sometimes one doesn't have much time to lie back and enjoy a lazy moment given the pressure of work or study but we can all free ourselves of stress by positive thoughts even in the midst of a frenetic activity.
Best, Luigi.

Sounds just about perfect Luigi; in a way that is a little worrying haha! Relaxed and comfy sounding and something I will look forward to, when my eight year old grows more timbre in his vocal chords; I wonder if I will miss that piercing scream that goes through me like an electric shock, just as I am having an after dinner snooze in my abused favourite chair?
Chris ;)

Hello Chris. I grant you that a screaming child is not conducive to peaceful relaxation. You may have to postpone your planned snooze in your favourite chair until your offspring grows more placid.
Mind you, and I speak from experience, it could be quite a few years before you can enjoy a well earned
siesta.
