It was nearly midnight.
The weather was balmy
as we stood on the balcony
of our rented villa.
The sea was all silvery,
reflecting moonlight.
A distant flotilla
of fishing vessels
was fast disappearing
beyond the horizon.
Two shapely silhouettes,
in their birthday suit,
descended the steps
of the chalet next door,
giggling and skipping
towards the beach.
We guessed they were going
skinny-dipping.
As the girls beckoned
for us to follow,
it was proper, we reckoned,
to join in the fun.
And after a few dips
in the cool Adriatic
we had salty lips
but the mood was ecstatic.
Four decades have elapsed;
I come back to these shores
when feeling nostalgic
but can never recapture
the old magic.

Hi luigi,
It's true what they say, 'you can never go back and
recapture that moment.'
I really enjoyed this poem.
Jenny.

Dear Jenny, you have proved that I was wrong when I said that poems are not read after the original publication, as this dates back to 2008, but 'cherried' pieces now tend to attract comments which wasn't the case at the time.
The fact that you kindly found the time to dig this from the archive is greatly appreciated.
