A Shopping Experience (I.P.)

from the ABC set Cherry ripe

It’s usually the missus
who goes round with the trolley
to do the weekly shopping.
- It is an act of folly
that frightens me to death.
But one day, full of charm,
she said: ‘You’re going to Tesco,
it won’t do you any harm.
The freezer needs topping
and then we want some greens;
broccoli and cauliflower
or maybe runner beans.’

I looked like a lost soul,
trudging from aisle to aisle;
the girl at the fish counter,
with an engaging smile,
offered me a Dover sole.
I was an absolute wreck
as I reached the checkout
at the end of my trek.
I was like a jelly
and couldn’t feel my joints
but it ended in triumph:
they gave me triple points.

What a lovely and funny poem. It all rhymes beautifully. Great take on the IP
;)

glad it had a happy ending Luigi. I expect she'll send you next week after that! Thanks for making me laugh

Hello Pia. Lovely to hear from you.
It was quite a coincidence that on the same day my wife and I went to the supermarket for the weekly shopping, the IP was on that very topic.
The experience was fresh on my mind. My attitude to shopping hasn't changed, tough: I still HATE it!
Many thanks for reading and commenting.

Hello insert and my thanks to you for stopping by.
I am not a shopper at all and in reality I am only a passive observer - holding the trolley - while my better half goes in search of bargains. There are several other victims like me: you can see at least a dozen men bored out of their skull wandering aimlessly handling a vehicle propelled by wheels with a mind of their own. Such is life.
So glad this ditty hit the mark and made you laugh.

I hate shopping as well Luigi- that means I am not the average housewife and for some people it takes ages before they reach the check out.- I usually rush through and only buy exactly what is on my list. Ha ;)

Hello Luigi,
I enjoyed this poem, I hate the weekly shopping aswell, it's all the putting in the trolly of the
food, then putting it on the checkout, then packing
it, then in the car, then when you get home taking
it out, then putting it all away, phew what a night
mare!
Very enjoyable read.
Thankyou.

Hi Luigi, almost forgot congratulations on the
cherries. Jenny.

Hi Jenny. I agree that it is quite a bind having to go to great lengths in order to feed ourselves. Mind you, nowadays most supermarkets will deliver to your door thus saving time and effort. Kind of you to let me know that you have enjoyed this ditty.
I am chuffed about the cherry.

Hi Rebecca, hope all is well with you and you are not working too hard. Everything in moderation I say but don't hold back on the laughter, the best medicine.
Have a good weekend.
