ABUSE

from the ABC set

There was a girl
Always afraid
She'd sit
In the corner,
With terror
In her eyes

Dying from the kicks
Screaming in pain as
Another punch
Scores a bull's eye

Soon enough,
She's covered with scars
Having difficulty walking
And getting utterly thin

No one knows
How she's treated
When there's no one
But her and the beater

She tries to hide it
But sometimes they ask
All she can say
It was an accident

All she wants,
Is to come home
To nothing.
An empty house,
No mother
Just for a few days
No bruises
No marks
Maybe she'll heal

But the cuts,
The bruises,
The knots,
The tears in her heart,
Seem to only get worse.

Her tangled, greasy hair
disappearing,
being ripped out.
the tears that fall
Now seem pointless
As she comes home
Sitting on a stove, set on high

She thinks now,
That there is no hope
So she sits and takes it
As her mom rips her to shreds

The scars may always be there
For she won't ever know
How long it'll take
For them to disappear

Stealing her self esteem,
The attacks keep on happening
An 'accidental' stab
Right in the stomach

She'd broken her arm,
Been smashed by a table
Thrown onto glass
And her spirit keeps fading
As she slowly falls
Away from the world
Inside herself,
Though still scared,
She is safe
For once.
