They Do It For Who?

from the ABC set Tales Of The Rainbow Dragon

Oh how they hated Wikileaks
They shook their fists for weeks and weeks
How dare these hackers spoil their fun
Show their files to everyone

All their dirty laundry aired
Nothing too secret to be spared
Like little children - faces red
Forced to face the lies they’d spread

They huffed and puffed - issued threats
Said Wikileaks were terrorist's pets
Screamed of consequences dire
While they tried to douse the fire.

But no way was found to plug the leaks
The ‘system’ foiled again by ‘geeks’
Shocked that despite all their power
They’d found a foe who would not cower

So now they search to find a way
To put poor Julian Assange away
A way to make the upstart pay
For the indignities of yesterday

The ‘state’ must always win the day
Must always have the final say
Must demonstrate to one and all
Those who oppose will always fall

Yet who really loses when bullies win
If telling the truth is their victim's sin?
Who do these powers truly represent
Majorities in senate or parliament?

Public servants serving who
Are they serving me and you?
Don't they always act the same
Finding others to take the blame

Do they serve some greater good
That excuses all the lies and blood?
Or does each one truly serve themself
By serving those with power and wealth?

I love be way how the poem starts off in a humourous tone and the gradually becomes deeper and more serious. From my perceptionn this poem is about politicians and the government and how they slip up but bar any criticism and uprising against their mistakes. It is almost as if the government aren't as democratic and fair as portrayed. You've done a brilliant job of questioning their true position in society and it really makes you comprehend inquisitively beyond the common facade, conveyed by the government and/or media, which the general public naively view as truth. Good work :)

Very topical and well written.

Agree with Parkster that the light tone to start with lures the reader in. I am trying harder with beginnings in my stories, in an effort` to get (and keep) the reader's attention, so respect for this.

Thank you so much 'the parkster' and 'ashb'.
You’ve made my day!

I so rarely get any comments that I very rarely check for any nowadays.
It's really good to get some positive feedback!
