Epiphany

from the ABC set THE EMMANUEL SET

EPIPHANY.

First there is a dying
that in itself is an eternity
and then just when being buried alive is more than the earth stopping
your breath
you are pulled suddenly
into sunlight, clarity
and a shower of grace.

I remember it being like surfacing
washed in tears I find myself in your room again
I let you be concerned for the time it takes me to recover
a certain decorum
but that's from my armoury;
you are about saying the things that need saying
guiding me into the light of my revelation.
Leading me then leaving me there, calling out
"It is safe! It is safe!"
I feel like a baby a newborn
only desiring the simple things:
"The one thing needful"

Walking in this new daylight birdsong is cacophony
impossibly extravagant.
I will wait for You
And examine my new skin
very slowly,
tenderly.
