Retirement Short Lived

Retirement short lived is my poem

Engaging in work all my life

To never realise that your retirement would be short lived

In five weeks to be exact

Retirement they call it, some retirement that was

Engaging in work all my life

Missing my family already as I lye here in this hospital bed

Eager to get up and play with my grandchildren

Not being able to be with my wife again to

To care for, want for.

Short lived; I think as I lay here in this hospital bed

How horrible it must be for my family to watch as I gasp for air

Oh how I am going to miss them so much

Remember the good times, I say to myself

Through the light I see

Lot's of people enjoying themselves, they are

Inviting me, but I can't go yet can I? I'm

Very scared as I lye here in this hospital bed

Eventually I have to go, I have to stop the fighting if only for my family

Death is here, eager to take me, goodbye my family I will miss you so much, Godbless.

Thank you for your lovely comment,I wrote this not long after my grandad passed.

I am lucky to have such a close loving and supportive family.

He was our hero and we all miss him very much
