Chapter 48
Leaving the police station J.P waited for someone to call him back, sure there'd been a mistake. When the call didn't come he giggled to himself like a mad man.
The first thing he needed to do was get his hands on some gear. The police had kept hold of his phone and cash but J.P was sure that wouldn't present a problem. On the way home he'd have to pass a couple of people's places where he'd be able to get something till tomorrow.
The first place was Jed's.
Jed sold bags from a flat on the top floor of a house conversion. Reaching the front door J.P found it already ajar, entering he shut it behind him before heading upstairs.
Opening the door Jed seemed surprised,
"What you doin' out?
"I gotta go back in a couple of weeks.
Jed looked at him suspiciously before shrugging his thin shoulders and standing aside to let him into the small hallway,
"'Ow did you get in anyway?
The street door was open.
Jed shook his head before muttering,
"Fuckin' idiots, how many times do you 'ave to tell people?
J.P commiserated,
"I know what you mean.
Shutting the door Jed looked round,
"What you after?
"I need something till I get meself sorted.
"What you after tick?
J.P looked offended,
"Don't say it like that, I'd do it for you.
"Would you fuck, besides I aint really got nothin'.
"Oh come on Jed, don't be like that.
J.P moved towards the lounge where he could hear voices,
"Just give us a wash or something, he referred to the dregs left when someone had a hit, "I'm proper ill.
Jed stopped him,
"Don't go in there, listen I'll give you a bag till tomorrow, wait 'ere.
"Can't you do me a couple, come on Jed I'll have in the morning, maybe even later on tonight, if not I'll sell me stereo or something.
Shaking his head Jed pursed his lips,
"Can't do it.
Jed returned a couple of minutes later passing him a small, cellophane wrapped package.
"Nice one, is it the same as last night's?
The dealer nodded opening the flat door.
"You couldn't sort us a couple of quid could you Jed, I aint even got the money to phone.
Jed looked harried but stuck his hand in his pocket,
"There's a quid.
"Nice one, see you later yeah.
"Make sure you shut the door downstairs.
Turning Jed walked back into the lounge.
"That was close, a tall addict commented, "what's he doing out anyway?
Jed shrugged,
"Fuck knows, it's dodgy though aint it?
Everyone agreed.
Looking over at the stereo and portable television he continued,
"Anyway, where were we, the value's got to come down now.
