A Day In The Life ch51

Chapter 51

Nigel watched shaking his head as his hosts injected more speed. Soon they'd be sat discussing how to get some money together to purchase more, that would inevitably lead to him going and seeing Jean for a loan and he didn't want to do that.
Raven and Donny were arguing over who was next in line for a hit while Mikey stood in front of Stalk with a belt round his scrawny arm. Minutes later he sat breathing deeply a strange look in his eyes.
Besides not wanting to ask Jean for some cash Nigel was also aware the drink wouldn't last much longer and he'd need more to get through the night.
"Listen dude, how come I've only got ninety five mill and Jonny's got a hundred?
"For fuck's sake Donny it's five mill, it aint gonna make no difference.
"Let me have yours then.
"Get lost.
"See.
Nigel stood,
"I'm off.
The rest merely nodded, only Mikey got up and saw him to the door.

Outside the rain was falling in a thin drizzle, there were a few addicts at the phone-boxes, apart from them the street looked deserted. The police presence from earlier had subsided and all seemed to have returned to normal.
Nigel stood for a moment wondering where to go.
He could maybe walk up to one of the student areas and see if he could get a few quid or wait around here for someone to offer him a drink. The graveyard was out of the question, he'd fallen out with most a while ago so he wouldn't be welcomed there. Besides in this weather they'd be at one of their other haunts, which could be anywhere.
Standing by the shuttered café Nigel took advantage of the small bit of shelter while debating what to do.
Nigel looked over at the shop, then shook his head, Avi wouldn't have none of it, no cash no beer.
After looking up and down the road a couple of times he decided the best place to go would be Milo Street, Basement Square or St. Peters.
Reaching the cross road he saw the man who'd yelled from his window that morning.
"Alright mate, Nigel nodded, seeing the man wasn't stopping he added, "cheers for this morning.
It was enough to stop the man,
"This morning? Oh sorry Nige I was in a world of me own. This morning, nah don't worry about it.
Digging in his pocket he pulled out a two-pound coin.
"There you go.
Nigel waited until Dwaine had turned the corner before hurrying over to Avi's.

Walking up the street a few minutes later, one can of lager in his hand, one in his pocket, Nigel decided on Milo Street. There were plenty of take-aways so he'd maybe get something to eat from someone as well as enough cash for a couple more beers.
