Epiphany

from the ABC set Poems 1

I climb your mountain
Slowly rising
Deafening silence ironically defining

I reach the peak
And survey the landscape
I look in the crowd for your presence to stop this

For if you were here it would be different
Slight of hand of the greatest illusion
Soul defining miss direction

But you are not here
And that is important
Here’s your chance
Prove your existence!!!

It was a nice idea
A nice explanation
But it was never real
I now have clarification

I take a deep breath and pause again
Starting to explain my intolerable pain

The story unravels before my guests eyes
They hear how my faith has flown away
Like a rocket, into the skies

I remove the advert from around my neck
And the uniform that always shackled my step
My frightened shadow can go too
Now I am free
I can be true

As I descend down from your pulpit
Through the whispers of discontent
I glory in my new found arrogance
And realize that it’s not a total mess

For I did once believe, and in god I did trust
And now, although my faith has gone,
I know that, God…

You are still a blast!
