Gone To The Lords

from the ABC set More

Here lies a man
who lived on his lies.
He'd convince you the truth
was a lie in disguise.
Promise you good times.
To save you from bad.
To give you the best days
That you've ever had.
So what can we say
Now that he's left
He leaves us diminished
leaves us bereft.
He'd scheme and bluster
waffle and shout.
A model politician
without any doubt :O)

Jolly funny. Great title. Jaunty rhythm. 2nd last line trips it up a little. Maybe try

'A model MP'

or

'a model member' which has the delicious advantage of double entendre.

Good one

Dear Mykle,
Great sentiment. Get into their ribs, girl! I do it constantly with letters to the press and to Parliament.

Thanks Ewan and CinCCO!

I might have been temped to use 'a model member' Ewan, were it not that it might seem like he was simply a voluble member of the local cricket team.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
Looking back on this I realise that I wanted the word 'politician' to jar, Ewan. To stress my feeling that so many of them have most of the 'qualities' I'd already listed.
