I know a monk,
living between Cairo and Alexandria,
who has let go of all earthly possessions
including the name his mother gave him.
He told me the story of how
she phoned him on his Nokia 6600
and told him that she was going to visit
and he told her not to come
because he had let go of all earthly attachments
instead
he prays, draws saints and the Son of God
and sits at an old, beat up computer
and teaches himself
how to use photoshop.

This poem says so much in so few words. Beautifully crafted in its apparent simplicity.

Nancy: This is very good. I do think it might profit with some minor paring, perhaps, starting at the 2nd stanza
and told him she was coming to visit
he told her not to
he had let go of all earthly attachments
so, he prays, draws saints and the Son of God
and sits at an old, beat-up computer
teaching himself
how to use photoshop.
To your attention, and hopefully of use. Swep

Tina - Thank you so much for your kind words.
Swep - it's been a while.
As always, your suggestions are a great help to me. Thank you.
And I can't wait to catch up with your new writing.
