"The faded roses"

from the ABC set Transparent mirrors.

The smell of the roses almost faded,
but I can always get new ones.
I listen to music, each note sounding more arid
with every small sip of red wine; well, more like a gallon.
I travel to work by car. I take the wrong turn.
I’m late, but I explain that every traffic light was red.
After ten hours of aimless work, I return
home with a plan to go shopping, but I go to the pub instead.
There I order a pint of lager and I drink
it slowly with no intention of getting wasted.
Tomorrow I’ve got another day of work at the bank,
so that I can buy more roses, the smell of which you find sacred.

I may not be perfect. I may have made the wrong choices;
but I am genuine, so is my love and so are the roses...

Roses to me mean romantic, but they've been used poetically many times and often in a slighty cheesy way so if you use them it has to be utterly brilliant and original. In this poem I felt the last two lines were unnecessary and perhaps as a whole it feels a bit too much like prose - maybe you could clip some of the lines. This, of course, is only my opinion. The idea, however, is very good and I really liked the last line.

Yazmin, your comment really made my day. I am so happy that my work appeals to you so much. I never had anyone actually say 'You are my inspiration!' when it came down to my writing, so I can’t quite express how much this means to me.

Again, I thank you for your kind words. I'll keep them close to my heart. Thanks again.

Love, Nathan.

Keep writing, you're really good at it.

I love the poetry you have written here. I have met a person who wrote really great poems when I was on a trip with the Alaska Cruises. I am looking forward to see for another piece of art of yours.Congratulations and keep up the good work.
